Jargon Buster HTTP & HTTPS

What are HTTP and HTTPS

Isabelle defines HTTP and HTTPS

Isabelle Bearn explains what HTTP and HTTPS are in the latest edition of JUMPSEC’s Jargon Buster series.

Video transcript:

“HTTPS and HTTP are two web protocols that allow computers to communicate across the internet. HTTP is defined as hypertext transfer protocol and it is most commonly used for web browsing, for example to send you web pages from the associated server hosting the website you are visiting. HTTPS is similar but it add security hence the ‘S’, it encrypts all traffic by creating a secure tunnel between you and the website you are visiting and is commonly seen in online stores where security is required. More recently it can be seen on company websites.”
